Resveratrol, a naturally occurring antioxidant, comes from a variety of plants including grapes, peanuts, blueberries and cranberries, has been studied for its cardiovascular and cancer-related effects and health benefits. Reveratrol is also a compound found primarily in red wine which has long been touted as heart healthy, reducing the risk of heart disease, it is found in some food sources which vary widely. Supplementation of Resveratrol is recommended to take in a consistent amount.
Resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant, has been shown to inhibit the degradation of lipids which are fat-soluble vitamins (including A, D, E, & K) and molecules in the body and prevent lipid peroxidation. During lipid peroxidation, free radicals remove electrons from lipids in cell membranes resulting in cell damage. Since Resveratrol also has the ability to bond and dissolve with water and bond and dissolve in fats and oils it can offer more effective protection than other well-known antioxidants.
